Regional supply / demand of sources and use of wood fuel

EECA has undertaken surveys on the regional supply and demand for wood fuel. The regional reports are focused on the availability of biomass in the period until 2035 and focus on the heat users in each region which could convert  from fossil fuels to biofuels or electrity. The reports are misleading as to the full potential availability of biomass which could be used as wood fuel as they focus only on the immediate biomass availability. In most regions it is assessed that twice the amount of biomass could be available by 2050 provided action is taken to encourage new planting and that biomass is derived from an emerging trees on farms programme.

Benchmark wood prices

The Ministry of Primary Industries monitor the prices being received in each region for log wood prices. Log prices  As a guide to biomass purchase prices the K log prices or pulp log prices are useful indices depending on which region of new Zealand you are in.
