Information Sheet 55: Biomass energy for covered horticulture

(This information sheet is under development)

Plant cultivation in hot houses can be enhanced by use of heating additional to the sun. This can be for night or seasonal plant growth.  Heating of hot houses for covered horticulture can be by use of solid, liquid or gaseous biofuels. The most common solid biofuel is from wood and this can be in the form of wood chips or pellets. Less common yet is the use of herbaceous biofuels such as from straw, stover or miscanthus, and liquid biofuels.
